My favorite Player in this years Rookie Draft Class!
CB Ricky Hartman – I’m not certain Ricky Hartman will be the first CB taken in the draft… but I do believe he is the most well rounded and ready to play CB you’ll find this year. I suspect GM’s will be OVERLY enamored by the age of a player [the younger the better]… knowing a 21 year old will have the opportunity to partake in 8 Training Camps – realistically, most rookies could be groomed into a LEGITAMATE starter, dare I say STUD. The luxury a GM has with a talent like Ricky Hartman – if he has even a modest skew benefiting him you could get away with only needing to send him to 2 or 3 Training Camps [allowing you the benefit of grooming the next incoming talent and strengthening your secondary all the more].
Attributes MOST typically view as important for a CB… and how Ricky Hartman stacks up with the current GGL CB position:
HT: Many GMs get overly attracted by a TALL prospect… and though I understand the lure – I think 5’11” or taller is plenty good [hell, 5’10” is serviceable]. He’s not going to catch a lot of interest on his height alone… but knowing Ricky Hartman is 5’11” should have MOST teams feeling fine.
SPD: I think it’s safe to say… it unanimous across the league that Speed is the most valued attribute for the CB position. Currently in the GGL there are only 5 CBs with 96 SPD or greater [which Hartman can boast being in that company] – this makes Ricky Hartman instantly worthy of a top 5 selection in the FIRST round.
AWR: Some GMs will turn a BLIND eye to awareness if the prospect is tall enough and fast enough… for me, not wise when evaluating talent at the CB position. Though there are 201 CB with 60 AWR or better – there are only 46 of 257 rookies that can boast AWR of 60 or better [4 of those players are at the CB position this rookie class – including Hartman].
AGI: It seems agility is an attribute that brings a varying opinion from GMs… historically I have found it to be VERY important [more of a gut feel than facts], but recently I have begun questioning that inclination. Regardless, I think anyone would rather have a high AGI rating if given the opportunity… there are currently only 14 players at the CB position that has 96 AGI or higher [Hartman has 96 AGI].
ACC: I tend to think the general feeling is… SPD & ACC are viewed through a similar lens; GMs want both ratings to be HIGH. There are currently only 37 players at the CB position that has 95 ACC or higher – so Hartman will be in rare company.
CTH: There are not a ton of players at the CB position that have ELITE hands [80 CTH or higher]… so, this attribute tends to be overlooked [rightfully so] – Ricky Hartman has slightly above average hands with a rating of 60 CTH.
TAK: Seriously doubt a GM has ever looked at TAK and had be a knock out factor – should not be the case here either [even though Hartman will be below average with TAK of 55].
JMP: A nice to have attribute… Hartman can leap tall buildings in a single bound – he set a the vertical combine record [JMP = 99].
