Dallas Cowboys – Mid-point Review [5-3]
1. 29-22 vs Browns [3-4]
2. 46-10 vs Eagles [3-4]
3. 27-30 vs Packers [6-1]
4. 13-16 vs Redskins [5-3]
5. 13-20 vs Bengals [3-4]
6. 41-6 vs Cardinals [2-5]
7. 27-7 vs Rams [3-4]
8. 13-9 vs Buccaneers [6-2]
Opponents overall record: 31-27 [.534]
Signature win... Buccaneers (NFC South division leader)
Concerning loss... Redskins (never good to lose divisional games)
We’ll evaluate the Dallas Cowboys at Mid-point of the season via the American Grading System… and offer some high level / vague commentary.
Offense (C+)
QB Dak Prescott (B+)… we should start with the most impressive aspect of Dak’s performance, 14 TDs and ONLY 3 INTs! Dak’s ranks within the top 5 in the following; passing yards [1670], completion % [54], yards per attempt [7.59] and QB rating [94.3].
HB Ezekiel Elliott (C+)… he’s willing to handle the load [6 of 8 games with 25+ carries] and has racked up the yards [710], which places him in the top 5 [4th actually]. All that aside, the 4 fumbles [3 lost] and subpar rushing average [3.86] has been a disappointment.
WR CeeDee Lamb (C+)… more of a possession receiver than a deep threat [34 catches ranks in the top 10]. The lack of TDs [2] and not breaking 100 yards in a single game yet this season is a HUGE disappointment.
WR Courtland Sutton (C+)… also, has performed in the role of a possession receiver [27 catches]. Though the average yards per reception is awfully low [10.78], his presence in the REDZONE has been noticed [4 TDs].
TE Jake Ferguson (C+)… a nice option / target, with 18 receptions (a catch in every game this season thus far) and 180 yards. But, don’t overlook the contribution as a blocking threat [36 pancakes and 0 sacks allowed].
Offensive Line (C+)… the are 4 players listed in the top 15 pancake performance list [3 of those are linemen], this unit has kept Dak Prescott fairly clean and block for the HB ranked 4th in rushing yards.
Defense (B)
MLB Eric Kendricks (B+)… with 58 tackles, he’s ranked 2nd in the league [11 tackles for a loss rank 2nd in the league].
Defensive Line (B)… currently, there are 3 players trending to have double digit sack totals by end of the season [LE Micah Parsons 6 sacks, RE DeMarcus Lawrence 6 sacks & DT Mazi Smith 5 sacks].
CB Trevon Diggs (B+)… leads the league with 6 INTs, one of which was returned for a TD.
Special Teams (A-)
K Brandon Aubrey (A+)… he’s PERFECT as of right now, 21 for 21 field goals & 20 for 20 on extra points [25 touchbacks on 50 kickoffs – 50%]. |

PS WK4 – DAL 26 vs MIN 10
The Dallas Cowboys traveled north and defeated the Minnesota Vikings by shutting down the Vikings in the 2nd half… Cowboys closed out the Preseason a perfect 4-0! The Cowboys won both the turnover and time of possession battle… the only turnover committed by the Cowboys was an INT thrown by QB Dak Prescott. The Vikings rookie QB J.J. McCarthy through his 2nd TD of the preseason hitting WR Jordan Addison on a 33 yard connection.
Offensive Player of the Game – HB Rico Dowdle had 108 yards on 14 carries… his longest run was for 35 yards which went for a TD.
Defensive Player of the Game – DT Osa Odighizuwa had 5 tackles (1 for a loss) and two (2) sack.
Honorable Mention – K Brandon Aubrey went 4 for 4 on FG attempts… he had 2 kickoffs, 1 was a touchback.
ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL… The Dallas Cowboys sure the hell are – after a 4-0 showing in the preseason. The Cowboys nearly out scored their opponents 2 to 1 (109 points vs 55 points)… this surely is the product of a VERY good defense and adequate offense. The starting Line-up for the regular season should be released in the coming days, though we’re not expecting any major surprises, there were some close position battles at some spot – most are for depth consideration. |

PS WK3 – SF 6 vs DAL 12
The Dallas Cowboys hosted and defeated the San Fransico 49ers in a BORRING battle of FGs… DREADFUL display! The were a combined 5 turnovers made (all INTs) by the 49ers and Cowboys, this no doubt contributed to any hope of an effective drive being delivered. Bright spots for bot teams came from the run game… HB Christian McCaffrey was 10 for 67 (6.7 avg) while HB Deuce Vaughn was 13 for 83 (6.38 avg).
Anyone HUNGRY… the Cowboys were, with 34 PANCAKES on the day!
Offensive Player of the Game – K Brandon Aubrey went 4 for 4 on FG attempts… hi 1 kickoff was a touchback.
Defensive Player of the Game – DT Mazi Smith had 4 tackles (1 for a loss) and a sack.
Honorable Mention – DE Micah Parsons has been quiet this preseason… but today Parson’s contributed with 3 tackles and a sack.
Next week… The Dallas Cowboys travel to Minnesota to face the Vikings, who have lost 2 straight and are 1-2 this preseason. The Dallas Cowboys are intending to display their expected starting line-up week 4 of the preseason in the first half while back-up take the field in the 2nd half. |

PS WK2 – TEN 10 vs DAL 41 |
PS WK2 – TEN 10 vs DAL 41
The Dallas Cowboys hosted and defeated the Tennessee Titans in impressive fashion… never close – the Cowboys took this opportunity to get some of their starters plenty of playing time (QB Dak Prescott played the whole game). The Tennessee Titans were stymied on 3rd down, only converting 1 of 8 attempts (12%) while the Dallas Cowboys convert 9 of 13 attempts (69%). The Cowboys dominated the Time of Possession 31:14 to 12:46 and won the turnover battle by a margin of 2 (two INTs by QB Will Levis) to 0.
Somewhat concerning… QB Dak Prescott was sacked 5 times – this needs to be cleaned up if the Cowboys hope to see Dak make it through a full season healthy!
Offensive Player of the Game – QB Dak Prescott was, who played the full game, was 25 of 32 for 337 yards… also tossing 3 TD’s – he had a QB RTG of 141.8. Dak’s favorite target on the day was WR Courtland Sutton, who had 8 receptions for 133 yards and 2 receiving TDs.
Defensive Player of the Game – Hard to pick any one player… the defense wasn’t on the field much. I’d have to say 3rd down defense was the start today, only allowing 1 3rd down conversion.
Honorable Mention – The running attack was on point… both HB Ezekiel Elliott and Deuce Vaughn scored TDs and averaged over 4 yards per carry.
Next week… The Dallas Cowboys host the San Francisco 49ers, who are 1-1 this preseason with loss to the Denver Broncos and a win against the Oakland Raiders. The Dallas Cowboys are believed to be starting QB Cooper Rush week 3 and 4 while Dak Prescott does clean up in the 2nd half of the final two contests. This week should be a good test for the offensive line facing LE Nick Bosa… it’s imperative the Cowboys keep their QB’s upright! |

PS WK1 – DAL 30 vs OAK 29 |
PS WK1 – DAL 30 vs OAK 29
The Dallas Cowboys visited and defeated the Oakland Raiders… a close fought game right to the end – saving the Cowboys from defeat, probably K Daniel Carlson missing a FG and extra point. There appears to be a lot of cleaning up needed offensively – the ugliest of examples would be the PICK-6 QB Cooper Rush tossed (intercepted and returned by SS Isaiah Pola-Mao). Other turnover took place when HB Ezekiel Elliott fumbled, and QB Dak Prescott threw an interception.
On a positive note… the Time of Possession battle was handily won by the Dallas Cowboys and the Cowboys defensive front 4 collected 4 sacks and 8 tackles for a loss (impressive work)!
Offensive Player of the Game – TE Jake Ferguson was anointed the starter when Luke Schoonmake was traded – Ferguson did not disappoint. His 80 yard TD reception was a spectacular display – breaking a tackle and sprinting for PAYDIRT (55 YAC). Ferguson had another 2 receptions for 11 yards and 4 pancakes while allowing no sacks.
Defensive Player of the Game – ROLB Malik Harrison was acquired via trade just before roster requirements. In Harrison’s opening game as a Cowboy, he accounted for 5 tackles… 4 of which were for a loss (HUGE)!
Honorable Mention – DT Mazi Smith had 4 tackles and 2 sacks while K Brandon Aubrey was 3 of 3 on FGs and 3 of 3 on extra points.
Next week… The Dallas Cowboys play host to the Tennessee Titans who were victors over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers week 1. In the press conference following the victory over the Oakland Raiders Cowboys Head Coach Mike McCarthy hinted at QB Dak Prescott getting the lion share of playing time (maybe the whole game).
~ Trade Alert ~
LE Tyrus Wheat has been dealt to the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for a 2025 4th selection.
In week 1 of Preseason play Wheat recorded 4 tackles (1 for a loss) and a sack! |
