2025 GGL Houston Texans- Team Updates
2025 GGL Houston Texans Offseason Team Update #1

Here we are, another Madden GM season, the 2nd of the GGL era. GM Mellon made it official, he is coming back for at least another season, WELCOME BACK GM MELLON whoo hoo!

The inaugural GGL season (congrats to GM Norbert and the San Diego/Los Angeles Chargers on their championship season) had it’s share of up and downs for both GM Mellon and the Texans however they ended the season with a respectful 9 wins and 7 loses which was good enough for 2nd in the AFC South division behind the Jacksonville Jaguars. Texan ownership is expecting GM Mellon and the Texans to perform a bit better 2025. It is hard to gain double digit wins in these league so GM Mellon will have his work cut out for him.

This past Saturday kicked off the 2025 Houston Texans fan experience weekend. This is an event where The Texans and the owners from the McNair family open NGR Stadium to the public, free of charge for things like player meet and greets, very light offensive and defensive walk thought’s with selected fans and tons of media time for players and fans alike. Team president Greg Grissom was the first to hold an open interview at this year’s event where he discussed what was top priority for him: team finance.

“The first thing I want to address is our 2025 team salary, league salary cap and how we plan on being competitive. Right off the bat I want to say that we believe we have the right weapons and players to be competitive and challenge for the division right now. That does not mean we will sit still and not be active during this offsetting. The 2025 GGL team salary cap this year will be $239.79M. Currently we have the 4th fewest cap dollars available to use at %6.63M. The Cleveland Brown are at the bottom as they are $36.9M over the cap, followed by the New York Giants who are $16.5 over the cap and third are the Green Bay Packers who are $1M under the cap. Quite a bit of our team salary is dedicated to six specific players on our offensive and defensive lines. RT Laremy Tunsil, who was a GGL pro bowler last season, is 31 years old is scheduled to ear $29.41M this year and over $35M next year. He currently has a $15M cap hit. LG Tytus Howard, is 29 years old and scheduled to earn $16.91M this season and $20.64M next season. He currently has a $9M cap hit. RG Shaq Mason, also a 2024 GGL pro bowler is scheduled to earn $10.77M this season and $13.24M next season. He currently has a $5M cap hit. RE Daniel Hunter who is 31 years old is scheduled to earn $20.59M this year which is the final year of his contract. He has a $4.2M cap hit. DT Denico Autry is 35 years old and scheduled to earn $9.32M this season. He has a cap hit of $1.5M. LE Will Anderson Jr is set to earn $9.09M this season and $10.13M next season. Currently he has a cap hit of $11.3M. Anderson’s age of just 24 years is the only name on this list who is 100% sure not to be a trade or cut candidate. We know for sure there will be at least a couple different changes on both the offensive and defensive lines however we do not yet know what changes those might be.

Before we break off to do positional player reviews and expectations I want to announce those players whose contracts have expired and will not be returning to the Houston Texans in 2025, at least not initially. Who knows what free agency wil hold for these players.

TE Marcedes Lewis- Lewis retired at age 40. We wish him well.
LG Kendrick Green- 27 years old, 76 OVR- no states recorded in 2024.

WR Robert Woods- 33 years old, 80 OVR- 2024 stats include 32 catches for 408 yards and 2 TD’s
RB Cam Akers- 26 years old, 86 OVR- 2024 stats include 8 rushed for 42 yards and 1 TD
FS Duron Harmon- 34 years old, 84 OVR- 2024 stats include 1 tackle and 1 catch allowed
RE Jerry Hughes- 37 years old, 84 OVR- no stats recorded in 2024
DT Foley Fatukasi- 30 years old, 87 OVR- 2024 stats include 9 tackles, 1 tackle for loss and 2 sacks. Fatukasi played as our DT2 most of the year.
LE Derek Barnett- 29 years old- somehow Barnett recorded a pancake in 2024 but that was his only stat.

For some good news for our fans; I can announce our 2025 team resign and match eligible players.

2025 Team Resign: FB Brevin Jordan- 25 years old, 6’3”, 245# from Miami University. Attributes include; 87 SPD, 73 STR, 60 AWR, 89 ACC, 80 CTH, 74 CAR, 74 BTK, 60 PBK, 62 RBK
Jordan has been resigned for 5 years at $16.01M with a signing bonus of $4.05M. The contract pays out $2.13M this season, $2.53M in year 2, $3.05M in year 3, $3.72M in year 4 & $4.58M in year 5. Each year has a cap hit of $810K.

2025 Team Match Eligible: FS Micha Hyde- 35 years old, 6’0”, 197# from the University of Iowa. Attributes include 85 SPD, 93 AWR, 86 ACC, 78 CTH, 68 TAK and 73 IMP. If no other GM offers Hyde a conttract, which at 35 years of age that would be very doubtful, Hyde will sign a contract worth $12.25M with a signing bonus of $4.85M over 5 seasons. The contract would pay out as follows, if Hyde plays until age 40: $1.79M this season, $2.04M in year 2, $2.35M in year 3, $2.77M in year 4 and $3.3M in year 5. Each year has a cap his of $980K.

I am going to now turn it over to GM Mellon for a positional and player review.”

Before I get further I want to remind everyone that we had several, 11 to be exact) undrafted 2024 rookie free agents on the roster in 2024. I do not anticipate that to be the same in 2025 but let me take a minute to remind everyone about these players:

LT Laekin Vakalahi- LT1 starter and might move to RT1 this season
WR Cole Burgess- WR1 starter
QB Kendon Slovia- QB3
C Dylan McMahon- C2 but is looking to be promoted this season
LT Blake Fisher- LT2 & RT2 but is also looking to be promoted this season
MLB- Carl Jones- MLB4 should be MLB3 this season
ROLB Isaiah Stalbird- ROLB starter
LOLB Jamal Hill- LOLB starter and was GGL defensive rookie of the year
FS Calen Bullock- part time starter who will be promoted this season
CB Daequan Hardy- CB4/5 and part time PR
TE Cade Stover- TE2/3 and should have a similar role this season

We believe we hit a home run with these non drafted rookie free agents last season. Okay, here we go, let’s begin our positional and player review.

QB’s are coached by Jerrod Johnson and currently consist of CJ Stroud, Jake Browning and Kedon Slovis. Stroud is cemented in as the starter and Slovis will never be more than a QB3. This added to Browning being 29 years old and on the last year of this contract might mean the Texans will soon be in the market for a QB2.

CJ Stroud- 24 years old, year pro 2 from THE Ohio state university. He is our starter and his 2024 stats include 213 comp, 433 att, 3095 yards passing, 49.1 comp rate, 17 TD, 14 int, 28 sacks and a QBR of 72.5. Attributes include 88 AWR, 90 THP and 90 THA, 83 IMP. CJ is signed for two more years and the contract pays him $9.37M this year followed by $10.42M next year with a cap hit of $8.11M.

Jake Browning- 29 years old, year pro 6 from the University of Washington. He is our QB2 and his 2024 stats include 23 comp, 51 att, 246 yards passing, 45.1 comp rate, 0 TD, 4 int, 6 sacks and a QBR of 27.1. We were disappointed with Jakes play in 2024 and hope he can improve, if called upon in 2025. Jake is in the final year of his contact which is set to pay him $970K with no cap hit.

Kedon Slovis- 24 years old, year pro 1 from Birmingham Young University. He is our emergency QB3 as I like to keep 3 QB’s on the roster and not have to rely on our punter as the emergency QB. Kedon did not record a stat in 2024 and his attributes include; 58 AWR, 89 THP, 76 THA. Kedon’s contact run for 4 more years and pays him $510K each season with no cap hit.

RB’s are coached by Danny Barnett and currently consist of Joe Mixon and Dameon Pierce. We will be looking to add a RB3 either in free agency or the GGL draft.

Joe Mixon- 29 years old, year pro 8 from the University of Oklahoma. Joe was our starter last year and a pro bowler. He will once again be our starter however we may begin looking for his replacement soon. His 2024 stats include 344 rushes for 1244 yards, 3.62 yards per rush, 5 TD, 1 fumble, 18 catches for 264 yards and 1 TD. His attributes include 91 SPD, 81 STR, 99 AWR, 89 AGI, 91 ACC, 99 CAR, 89 BTK, 73 CTH and 82 IMP. Joe’s contact has two years remaining and pays him $8.35M this season and $10.26M next season with a $4M cap hit.

Dameon Pierce- 25 years old and 3 year pro. Dameon showed flashes of brilliance last season in the RB2 role that he should also have this season. His 2024 stats inclyde 92 rushes for 391 yards, 4.25 yards per rush, 3 TD, 0 fumbles, 6 catches for 132 yards and 1 TD. His attributes include 89 SPD, 84 STR, 75 AWR, 91 ACC, 90 CAR, 91 BTK with decent blocking skill of 57 PBK and 45 RBK. This is the final year of Dameon’s contract which is set to pay him $1.46M with a $200K cap hit.

TE’s are coached by Jake Moreland and currently consist of Dalton Schultz and Cade Stover.

Dalton Schultz- 29 years old, year pro 7 from Stanford University. Schultz was our starter last season and should have the same role in 2025 in part due to his hefty contract. He is set to ear $11.77M this season and $14.56M next season. The contact currently has a $5M cap hit so releasing him or trading him is not an option at this time. His 2024 stats include 41 catches for 513 yards, 2 TD’s, 53 pancakes and 1 sack allowed.

Cade Stover- 25 years old, year pro 1 from THE Ohio State University. Stover played TE2/3 and FB2/3 last year. His states include 1 rush for 2 yards, 1 tackle and 14 pancakes with 0 sacks allowed. His attributes include 85 SPD, 74 STR, 67 AWR, 89 ACC, 78 CTH, 70 CAR58 PBK and 62 RBK. His role in 2025 is expected to similar to what it was in 2024. His contract has 2 more years on it and pays him $1.09M this season, $1.29M next season and $1.55M in the final year with a $540K cap hit.

WR’s are coached by Ben McDaniles and currently consists of Nico Collins, Cole Burgess, Lucky Jackson and Tank Dell.

Nico Collins- 26 years old, year pro 4 and coming of a pro bowl 2024 season. He is the lone star on the Texan receiving corp. His 2024 stats include 64 catches for 1022 yards, 6 TD’s and also added 13 pancakes. His attributes include 92 SPD, 67 STR, 85 AWR, 89 AGI, 93 ACC, 96 CTH, 91 JMP, 84 BTK and 76 IMP. Collins is signed to a very healthy 3 year deal which pays him $17.75M this season followed by $24.25M next season and $25.5M in the last year of the deal. Collins will be the Texans WR2/1 for the foreseeable future.

Cole Burgess- 25 years old, year pro 1 from division III SUNY Cortland and coming off a really good season, especially for an undrafted rookie where he won the WR1 spot in the mid to later part of the season. His 2024 stats include 36 catches for 467 yards but 0 TD’s. He also added 6 tackles and 7 pancakes. His attributes include 92 SPD, 78 STR, 59 AWR, 89 AGI, 89 ACC, 91 CTH and 97 JMP. He has the highest STR of any WR in the GGL. While he is very raw and an older rookie he will see significant time on the field in 2025 either as the Texans WR1 or WR3. His current contract has four years remaining at $620K this year, $720K next season, $850K in 3 seasons and $1.01M in the final season with a cap hit of $1.2M. Since Cole has such a team friendly contract he should remain with the Texans through the entire deal.

Lucky Jackson- 28 years old, year pro 2 from Western Kentucky University. Lucky was signed late in 2024 (week 11) and played a limited role at WR but did see a fair amount on special team. His 2024 stats included 2 catches for 37 yards and 13 KR’s for 362 yards and an avg of 27.8 yards per return. His contact is such that it allows for the team to release him without suffering a cap penalty as it is for three more years at $2.7M for this year, next year and the final year as well, all with no cap hit. His attributes include amazing SPD of 95 and 95 AGI, 92 CTH but 81 ACC, 42 STR, and 51 AWR. If Jackson is part of the Texans WR corp by the time the regular season starts it will most likely be as WR3/4.

The offensive line is coached by Chris Strausser. As mentioned in the opening state by team president Grissom, we expect to see some major movement on the Texans offensive line during the off season and/or preseason. Currently the offensive line consists of LT1 Laekin Vakalahi, LT2 Blake Fisher, LG1 Tytus Howard, LG2 Kenyon Green, C1 Juice Scruggs, C2 Dylan McMahon, RG1 Shaq Mason, RT1 Laremy Tunsil and RT2 Kilian Zierer.

Laekin Vakalaahi- 22 years old, 1 year pro who did not play football in college or even go to college as he is New Zeeland born and played in Australia. He started at LT| and did very well for us last year. He will once again hold a starting spot of some sort on the offensive line this year. His 2024 stats included 51 pancakes and 2 sacks allowed. His attributes include 66 SPD, 89 STR, 66 AWR, 77 ACC, 82 PBK and 76 RBK. He is signed for 4 more years and will earn $2.16M this season followed by $2.5M next season, $2.93M in year 3 and $3.51M in the 4th and final year. The contract has a cap hit of $4.12M.

Blake Fisher- 25 year old, 1 year pro out of Notre Dame. GM Mellon believes Fisher has some of the attributes to be a sussessful offensive lineman. This means there is a chance for Fisher to be promoted to a starting position on the offensive line as early as this year. He did not record a stat in 2024 but has attributes which include 67 SPD, 85 STR, 73 AWR, 60 AGI, 70 ACC, 78 PBK and 78 RBK. He is signed for 3 more seasons and is set to earn $1.51M this season, $1.85M next season and $2.28M in the 3rd and final season. The contract has a $1.2M cap hit.

Tytus Howard- 29 years old, 6 year pro our of Alabama State University. Howard started at LG for us last season and stats include 48 pancakes and 3 sacks allowed. His attributes include 73 SPD,85 STR, 89 AWR, 61 AGI, 69 ACC, 75 PBK and 74 RBK. His contract is a large point of concerns for the team as he is signed for two more seasons and is set to earn $16.91M this season and $20.64M next season. The contract comes with a cap hit of $9M. Howard is one of the prospective Texans who will be in consideration to be released, possibly even via a 100K Activity Point cap free release transaction.

Kenyon Green- 24 years old, 3 year pro out of Texas A&M University. Green did not see action in 2024 and does not seem to be on GM Mellon’s radar for anything but the same in 2025. His attributes include 64 SPD, 85 STR, 74 AWR, 56 AGI, 74 ACC, 68 PBK and 75 RBK. Unfortunately for the Texans, since Green was an early round draft pick he comes with a hefty contract. The contract ends after this year but is set to pay Kenyon $4.74M and comes with a cap hit of $2.54M.

Juice Scruggs- 25 years old, 2 year pro out of Penn State University. Scrugs was the starting C for us last season where he only gave up 2 sacks but had only 23 pancakes. His attributes include 65 SPD, 88 STR, 84 AWR, 61 AGI, 75 ACC, 77 PBK and 73 RBK. He is signed for 2 more seasons and set to earn $1.63M this season and $2.01M next season. The contract has a $700K cap hit. Scruggs is expected to continue to be our starting C.

Dylan McMahon- 24 years old, 1 year pro out of North Carolina State University. McMahon was another one of our 2023 undrafted free agents who GM Mellon thinks can be a starter. His attributes include 70 SPD, 82 STR, 74 AWR, 76 AGI, 76 ACC, 72 PBK and 73 RBK. While his STR is low at 82 this will increase with sophomore progression if his OVR stays low enough. He did not see action in 2024 but there is a chance he will see action this year maybe even in a C2, LG2 and RG2 role, if nothing else. He is signed for 4 more years and is set to earn $390K this season, $450K next season, $530K in year 3 and $640K in year 4. The contract comes with a $720K cap hit.

Shaq Mason- 32 years old, 10 year pro out of Georgia Tech University. Mason was named a GGL RG pro bowler in 2024 even though he did not have the most impressive season with 59 pancakes and 8 sacks allowed. His attributes include 69 SPD, 84 STR, 90 AWR, 61 AGI, 68 ACC, 74 PBK, 83 RBK. He has a sigh contract but not as high as LG Howard or RT Tunsil at $10.77M this year and $13.24M next year. The contract has a cap hit of $5M. Due to his contract and coming off a pro bowl season he will probably start someone on the line this season.

Laremy Tunsil- 31 years old, 9 year pro our of the University of Mississippi. Tunsil was a GGL pro bowl RT last season with 68 pancakes and 8 sacks allowed. His attributes include 68 SPD, 90 STR, 95 AWR, 65 AGI, 65 ACC, 97 PBK, 83 RBK and 84 IMP. His contract is of concern for the team as he is set to earn $29.41M this season and $35.99M next season. The contract comes with a large $15M cap hit. We expect Tunsil to land on the trade block or maybe even end up being a cap free release via a 100K activity point purchase. There is also a chance GM Mellon tried to restructure the contract.

Kilian Zierer- 25 years old, 2 year pro out of Auburn University. Zierer recorded no stats in 2024 and is simply a role player for our team. His attributes include 38 SPD, 95 STR, 51 AWR, 49 AGI, 57 ACC, 81 PBK and 81 RBK. He is signed for 4 more seasons and is set to earn $540K this year followed by $620K next year then$740K in year 3 followed by $880K in the final year of the deal.

Our special teams unit is coached by Frank Ross. Currently we have one K in Ka’ Imi Fairbairn and one punter in Tommy Townsend.

Ka’ Imi Fairbairn- 31 years old, 9 year pro out of the University of California Los Angeles and was named to the 2024 GGL pro bowl. He had a very special 2024 season where he was perfect on field goals and extra points. He was 41 of 41 on FG’s and 24 of 24 on extra points. He alos had78 kickoffs with 22 touch backs for a touch back rate of 28.2%. His attributes include 68 AWR, 95 KPW and 97 KAC. He is signed for 2 more seasons and set to earn $5.72M this season and $6.9M next season. The contract has a cap hit of $3.66M. He will no competition this year and will be the Texans kicker again in 2025.

Tommy Townsend- 30 years old, 5 year pro out of the University of Florida. Townsend had a good 2024 season with 90 punts for 4254 yards, and avg of 47.7 yards per pun with 16 inside the 20 yard line for an inside the 20 rate of 17.7% and 25 touch backs. His attributes include 66 AWR, 95 KPW and 95 KAC. He is on the final year of his contract and is set to earn $3.26M this season with a $1M cap hit. He will enter the 2025 season also with no competition and be the Texans starting punter.

Our defensive line is coached by Rod Wright. Currently our defensive line consists of RE1 Danielle Hunter, DT1 Denico Autry, DT2 Tim Settle, LE1 Will Anderson Jr aqnd LE2 KJ Henry.

Danielle Hunter- 31 years old, 10 year pro out of Louisiana State University. Hunter was our starting RE in 2024 and if he is not a cap causality he will start there again in 2025. He is a potential cap causality due to being on the final year of his contract and is set to earn $20.59M. The contract has a $4.2M cap hit. His 2024 stats include 46 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, 10 sacks, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery and 2 deflections. His attributes include 86 SPD, 80 STR, 94 AWR, 81 AGI 87 ACC and 91 TAK.

Denio Autry- 25 year old, 11 year pro out of Mississippi State University. Autry was our starting DT last year where he produced 38 tackles, 4 tackles for loss, 7 sacks and 1 fumble recovery. His attributes include 71 SPD, 83 STR, 95 AWR, 66 AGI, 70 ACC, 77 IMP and 83 TAK. He is on the final year of his contract and is set to earn $9.33M this season but the cap hit, if released is only $1.5M. This makes Autry a potential cap causality.

Will Anderson Jr- 24 year sold, year pro 2 out of the University of Alabama. Anderson did not fit very well into GM Mellon’s 3-4 defense last season. His stats were disappointing at 40 tackles, 8 tackles for loss, 7 sacks, 1 forced fumble and 1 deflection. GM Mellon will try to figure out how to get Anderson Jr more involved in the defense I 2025 as he will be a starter for the Texans. His attributes include 87 SPD, 84 STR, 85 AWR, 85 AGI, 90 ACC, 87 JMP, 81 IMP and 90 TAK. His contact includes being signed for 2 more seasons which pays him $9.09M this season and $10.13M next season. The contract comes with a cap hit of $11.3M.

KJ Henry- 26 years old, year pro 2 our of Clemson University. His 2024 stats included 2 tackles and 1 tackle for loss with attributes of 85 SPD, 68 STR, 64 AWR, 68 AGI, 89 ACC and 76 TAK. Henry was a depth player on the DL which is where he is projected to end up in 2025 as well. He is signed for 4 more years and will be paid $820K this year followed by $950K next year then $1.12M and $1.34M in the final 2 seasons of the deal.

Our linebackers are coached by Billy Davis and consist of ROLB2 Azeer Al Shaair, ROLB1 Isaiah Stalbird, MLB1 Chop Robinson, MLB2 Christian Harris, MLB3 Carl Jones, MLB4 Devin Harper, LOLB1 Jamal Hill and LOLB2 Henry To’ O To’ O.

Azeez Al Shaair- 28 years old, year pro 6 out of the University of Alabama. He was a part time starter in 2024 and played ROLB as well As MLB where he racked up 57 tackles, 8 tackles for loss, 1 sack, 1 forced fumble and had 6 deflection to 5 catches allowed. His attributes include 86 SPD, 77 STR, 87 AWR, 78 AGI, 88 ACC and 86 TAK. He is signed for 2 more seasons and is set to earn $9.69M this year followed by $11.95M next season. His contact has a $4.4M cap hit. We project he will have a similar role in 2025 as he did in 2025.

Isaiah Stalbird- 25 years old, year pro 1 out of South Dakota State University. Stalbird was a 2024 undrafted rookie who earned a few starts late in the season. GM likes him a lot and he is currently projected to be the teams starting ROLB. His 2024 stats include 22 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss, 1 sack, 1 forced fumble, 1 int, 1 deflection and 3 deflections. His attributes include 91 SPD, 75 STR, 60 AWR, 89 AGI and 76 TAK. He is signed for 4 more seasons and is set to earn $540K this season followed by $620K next season, $730K in season 3 and $880K in season 4.

Chop Robinson- 22 years old, year pro 1 from Penn State University. We traded the Miami Dolphins and GM Scotty our 1st, 2nd and 3rd round draft picks for Robinson only fpr him to get a season ending injury. Robinson had not seen playing time at the time of the trade so the majority of his rookie season was missed or wasted. His attributes include 91 SPD, 74 STR, 80 AWR, 82 AGI, 94 ACC and 78 TAK. His OVR is currently at 82 so as long as it does not go up more than 1 point he will be able to earn sophomore progression which may even out missing the majority of his rookie season. He is signed for 3 more seasons and set to earn $1.87M this season followed by $2.43M next season and $3.14M in year 3. As things stand now, Robinson will be the Texans starting MLB in 2025.

Christian Harris- 24 years old, year pro 3 from the University of Alabama. Harris played at both ROLB and MLB last season. His 2024 stats include a team leading 85 tackles, 17 tackles for loss, 1 sack, 2 forced fumbles, 4 int’s, 10 deflections and 8 catches allowed. His attributes include 90 SPD, 69 STR, 83 AWR, 84 AGI, 93 ACC, 80 TAK. He will be our teams MLB2 if we continue with our 4-3 defense. He is on the last year of his contract and is set to earn $1.78M this season. His contract has a $270K cap hit.

Carl Jones- 24 years old, year pro 1 from the University of California Los Angeles. Jones was also an undrafted rookie whom we signed last season. His 2024 stats include 1 tackle but also 1 fumble recovery which he returned for 33 yards and a defensive TD. His attributes include 90 SPD, 79 STR, 52 AWR, 81 AGI, 85 ACC and 72 TAK. He should be the teams MLB3 and will hopefully play on special teams. He is signed for 4 more seasons and will earn $320K this year followed by $380K next season, $460K in season 3 and $570K in season 4.

Devin Harper- 27 years old, year pro 3 from Oklahoma State University. His 2024 stats include 6 tackles. He should be depth at the MLB position. His attributes include 89 SPD, 70 STR, 56 AWR, 87 AGI, 91 ACC, 94 MLB and 79 TAK. He is signed for 3 more seasons and is set to earn $890K this season, followed by $1.06M next season and $1.3M in season 3.

Jamal Hill- 24 years old, 1 year pro out of the University of Oregon. Hill was an amazing rookie free agent signing who ended up being named the 2024 GGL defensive rookie of the year. His 2024 stats included 61 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, 4 sacks, 4 int’s, 10 deflections, 1 defensive TD vs 11 catches allowed. He progressed nicely, maybe too nice as his OVR is now 86 which means he will miss out on sophomore progression. His attributes include 92 SPD, 66 STR, 74 AWR, 79 AGI, 90 ACC and 82 TAK. He will be the teams starting LOLB. His contract will pay him $1.02M this season followed by $1.08M next season and $1.16M in year 3 and has a $150K cap hit.

Our defensive backs are coached by Dino Vasso and currently consist of CB1 Jeff Okudah, CB2 Derek Stingley Jr, CB3 Jalen Pitre, CB4 Marcus Jones, CB5 Daequan Hardy, CB6 Kamari Lassitre, FS2 (Match Eligible) Micah Hayes, FS1 Calen Bullock, SS1 Jimmie Ward, SS2 Lewis Cine.

Jeff Okudah- 26 years old, 5 year pro out of THE Ohio State University. Okudah’s 2024 stats include 49 tackles, 2 tackles for loss, 1 sack, 2 int for 16 yards, 22 deflections and 29 catches allowed. It was a pretty average CB season for Okudah. His attributes include 91 SPD, 66 STR, 85 AWR, 89 AGI, 90 ACC, 64 CTH, 91 JMP and 72 TAK. Okudah is expected to play the same role as he did in 2024 unless the team makes a big CB free agent signing. In that case Okudah would slip down to the CB3 spot. He is signed for 6 more years which he will earn $3.97M this season followed by $4.46M next season then $5.1M in year 3, $5.94M in year 4, $7.02M in year 5 and $8.45M in year 6. The contract has a cap hit of $13.92M.

Derek Stingley Jr- 24 years old, 3 year pro our of Louisiana State University. Stingley’s 2024 included 60 tackles, 4 tackles of loss, 4 int for 32 yards, 29 deflections and 38 catches allowed. GM Mellon would like to see Stingley Jr take on more of a ball hog role this season and end up with more int’s. He will continue to be the team’s best CB which means he will go against the opponents best WR. His attributes include 93 SPD, 58 STR, 93 AWR, 94 AGI, 93 ACC, 82 CTH, 92 JMP, 65 TAK and 81 IMP. Like Okudah he is also signed for 6 seasons. His contract will pay him $8.67M this season followed by $9.6M next season, $10.81M in season 3, $12.38M in season 4, $14.42M in season 5 and $17.08M in season 6. Stringley Jr will be a Texan throughout the contract as it contains a cap hit of $33.48M.

Jalen Pitre- 26 years old, 3 year pro out of Baylor University. Pitre played mostly CB3 for the Texans where he produced 22 tackles, 1 int, 5 deflections and 5 catches allowed. In 2025 his role should be similar playing between CB3/4. His attributes include 90 SPD, 62 STR, 82 AWR, 91 AGI, 93 ACC, 74 CTH but a low 59 TAK. He is on the last year of his contract which will see him earn $2.79M with a cap hit of $920.

Marcus Jones- 27 years old, 3 year pro, out of the University of Houston. His 2024 stats include 6 tackles, 1 catch allowed and 6 KR’s for 122 yards for an avg of 20.33 yards per return. We expect Jones to fight for a top 5 CB spot in 2025. He is on the last year of his contract and is set to earn $1.47M. His contract does not have a cap hit so he could be a cap causality. His current stats include 93 SPD, 48 STR, 73 AWR, 92 AGI, 95 ACC, 77 CTH and 60 TAK.

Daequan Hardy- 24 years old, 1 year pro out of Penn State University. His 2024 stats include 1 deflection, 8 PR’s for 36 yards for an avg of 4.5 yards per punt and 7 KR’s for 163 yards for an avg of 23.2 yards per return. Hardy is also one of our 2024 undrafted rookie free agents. His attributes include 94 SPD, 54 STR, 63 AWR, 86 AGI, 95 AGI, 71 CTH, 97 JMP, 56 TAK. We expect Hardy to fight for the CB4 spot this season and be the teams KR2 and PR2. He is signed for 4 years and is set to earn $1.44M this season followed by $1.68M next season, $1.99M in year 3 and $2.39M in year 4.

Kamari Lassiter- 22 years old, year pro 1 out of the University of Georgia. He did not record a stat in 2024. He will most likely be kept on the roster due to his $2.52 cap hit. He is signed for 3 seasons at $2.17M this season, $2.57M next season and $3.09M in year 3. His attributes, which would look good for a safety are 88 SPD, 53 AWR, 73 AWR, 95 AGI, 91 ACC, 61 CTH, 88 JMP and 65 TAK. A move to FS could be in store after this season once Lassiter gains his sophomore progression.

Calen Bullock- 22 years old, year pro 1 out of the University of Southern California. GM Mellon really likes Bullock who was a rookie free agent. He played at both FS and CB last season where he had 2 tackles, 1 tackle for loss, 1 sack,1 int for 7 yards, 2 deflections and 7 catches allowed. Bullock has been slotted to start at FS this season. His attributes include 91 SPD, 55 STR, 73 AWR, 88 AGI, 93 ACC, 80 CTH, 80 CTH and 68 TAK. He is signed for 3 more seasons and is set to earn $1.34M this season, $1.62M next season and $1.98M in year 3. His contract includes a $780K cap hit.

Micah Hyde- 35 years old, 12 year pro out of the University of Iowa. Hyde is the Texans match eligible player and is mentioned here because we don’t think anh GM will make a match eligible offer on a 35 year old FS. His attributes include 85 SPD, 55 STR, 93 AWR, 84 AGI, 86 ACC, 78 CTH and 68 TAK.

Jimmie Ward- 34 years old, 11 year pro out of Northern Illinois University. Ward’s production in 2024 included 50 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, 1 forced fumbles, 2 int, 9 deflections and 6 catches allowed. He should once again be the Texans starting SS. He is on the final year of his contract which will pay him $6.92M which comes with a cap hit of $2.62M. His attributes include 87 SPD, 51 STR, 87 AWR, 82 AGI, 86 aCC, 72 CTH, 87 JMP, 78 TAK and 73 IMP.

Lewis Cine- 26 years old, 3 year pro our of the University of Georgia. Cine totaled 5 tackles last season. His attributes include 92 SPD, 58 STR, 62 AWR, 83 AGI, 94 ACC, 61 CTH, 88 JMP and 74 TAK. He is signed for 4 yers and set to earn $650K this season followed by $750K next season, $880K in year 3 and $1.05M in year 4. The contract comes with a $1.24M cap hit.

Now let’s talk about the upcoming GGL draft. We currently have three picks; a 3rd from the New Orleans Saints, a 7th from the Denver Broncos and a 7th from the Miami Dolphins. We are hoping to use our private workouts to land a surprise starter on the offensive or defensive line.

Our next update will a review of free agency. Until then remember our team’s official slog, “Let’s do this together, H-Town”!

GM Mellon was 2nd in the intramural GGL team draft where he chose the Texans over his hometown team, the Cincinnati Bengals, where he was heavily rumored to be going to. GM Mellon had some issues with Bengals coaching and just felt as if the Texans met more of his type of football club. Mellon has been successful in the past as he has won 6 championships between three previously mentioned leagues. Mellon was quoted as saying, “I feel as if the team alreadys has a core of players we can build upon and look towards longtime success but also compete within the division now as well.
